Adopting a Puppy from Iron Rose Retrievers
How to Reserve Your Puppy
Puppies are selected in order of deposits received. A non-refundable deposit of $500 will confirm your place on our waiting list. Deposits by Venmo, PayPal or Money Order are preferred. ONLY in the event of the puppy not passing its Veterinary Health examination, will your deposit be refunded, applied to another available puppy or future litter waitlist.
Puppy selection can be difficult at such early age, or especially if they have not been born yet. Every one our puppies is assigned a colored collar at birth, so that we can keep track of their physical development and personalities as they grow. By the time they reach six weeks of age, buyers are able to see the pup’s distinct personalities.
We will schedule a date for you to meet the puppies and take yours home on the same day. Parvo virus is on the rise and to protect our puppies we do not allow visits before this time. We will, however, post many pictures and videos on Facebook for you to watch and look at. We can also facetime or zoom if you want a private “showing.” The remainder of the balance must be made with cash at pick up.
We keep a Master list of people wanting a Puppy. The position on the list is established by the date we receive your deposit! Deposits are non-refundable.
We also keep separate lists for those who want a puppy from a particular male or female.
In almost every litter one or more adopter will forfeit their place in line for a later adoption due to family matters, thus making their space available for those lower on the list.
If needed, we can deliver your puppy or meet at a pre-determined location. This can be done for a fee which we can discuss. If you cannot pick up your puppy on the date scheduled, we will keep the puppy an additional two days free of charge; after that, there will be a minimal $25 per day boarding and training fee.
We may also keep a limited number of pups from each litter to board and train for an additional fee. If interested, contact us and we can discuss fees and expectations.
Puppy Health Guarantee
Our Puppy Health Guarantee is that every puppy will be in good health at the time of pick-up or delivery.
We begin worming the puppies at 2 weeks of age and continue every two weeks until the puppies go home. Vaccinations are started at six weeks of age and they will be examined by our Veterinarian between 7-8 weeks of age. Once the puppy has been examined and immunized, the puppy can go to their new home at 8 weeks of age. We will send the puppy home with a puppy packet containing their health records, suggestions about care and AKC registration. We do everything within our control to ensure that you are delivered a healthy and socialized puppy that is free of disease.
For the protection of the buyer and seller, the buyer must agree to have puppy examined by a licensed Veterinarian of their choice within 72 business hours of puppy possession to verify the puppy's state of health. This shall be at buyers’ expense. This initial examination is mandatory to start the Replacement Warranty. Failure to do so will void this contract and its guarantee. If within those 72 hours the puppy is found to have a life-threatening defect, the buyer may return the puppy (Within 5 days of the purchase date and at buyers expense) for a replacement puppy (with equal or lesser value; with same coat, color or gender) as soon as one becomes available.

Rule of 7
At Iron Rose Retrievers we use the socialization technique known as the Rule of 7.
Dr. Carmen Battaglia created the Rule of 7’s as a guide to increase a puppy’s exposure. You do not have to follow it to the letter, but make sure your puppy is current on all shots before taking him out into a strange area. By the time a puppy is 3 months, make sure he has:
-
Been on 7 different types of surfaces: carpet, tile, linoleum, concrete, wood, vinyl, grass, dirt, gravel, and wood chips.
-
Played with 7 different types of objects: rope toys, plush toys, big balls, small balls, soft fabric toys, squeaky toys, paper or cardboard items, metal items, and sticks.
-
Been in 7 different locations: front & back yard, basement, kitchen, car, garage, laundry room, bathroom, kids room, living room, hallway, Vet’s office, groomers.
-
Met and played with 7 new people: include children and older adults, someone walking with a cane or in a wheelchair or walker, someone tall, someone in a hat.
-
Been exposed to 7 challenges: climb on a box, go through a tunnel, climb steps, go down steps, climb over obstacles, play hide and seek, go in and out of a doorway with a step up or down, run around a fence.
-
Eaten from 7 different containers: metal, plastic, cardboard, paper, human hands, pie plate, tin pan, frying pan, Frisbee, elevated bowl.
-
Eaten in 7 different locations: crate, yard, exercise pen, basement, laundry room, living room, bathroom, back yard.
Each new, positive experience will help your puppy flourish into a confident companion. Allow your puppy to learn passively by letting them to explore on their own, but make sure he is 100% supervised and that it is a controlled environment. Do not use any harsh training methods with a puppy, because you will break the bond of trust. Training should be fair and fun.
We think all puppies should go through the puppy socialization called the “Rule of 7.” The rule of 7 is a technique we learned to help introduce our Golden Retriever puppies to new environments and get them used to many different things they may encounter in their lives. The Rule of seven introduces the pups to small stresses that will help boost confidence, social behavior, and their train-ability.
Our rule of 7 works by introducing pups starting at 4 weeks of age to 7 new things they hadn’t had a lot of contact with before. Four days later we change these to 7 new items. So by the time you pick up your Iron Rose puppy they have been introduced to 49 different or new things/changes. When your puppy goes home they can be a cute, confident pup ready to trek across carpet, tile or wood floors, play with balls, squeaky toys and chase sticks and begin to work on obedience.
ENS and ESI
Early neurological stimulation (ENS) and early scent introduction (ESI) are two important techniques used by breeders to help their puppies grow into well-adjusted, confident dogs.
Early neurological stimulation is a series of specific handling exercises that are performed on puppies from the age of 3 to 16 days old. These exercises involve holding the puppy in various positions, gently stimulating its senses, and exposing it to different sensations such as cold and heat. By doing this, the breeder helps to improve the puppy’s neurological development and reduce stress, which can help the puppy adapt more easily to new situations as it grows older.
Early scent introduction involves introducing puppies to different smells during the first few weeks of life. We use scents such as vanilla, cinnamon, or various types of food to expose the puppies to new and interesting smells. Introducing various scents helps to create positive associations with different scents, which can be helpful in training the puppy later on.
Both ENS and ESI have a number of benefits for puppies who go through them. By improving neurological development and reducing stress, ENS can help puppies become more resilient and better able to handle new situations as they grow older. ESI can help puppies develop a strong sense of smell and create positive associations with different scents, which is helpful in training and socialization.
Using ENS and ESI helps our puppies grow into confident, well-adjusted dogs that are better prepared to handle the challenges of the world around them.
